I just added a bunch of "powered by" logos to my weblog home page. I decided that it was an all-or-nothing proposition. So rather than give credit only to the creators of my weblog software (Movable Type), I decided to give credit to all (well, nearly all) of the software used on my site. This list includes, in alphabetical order, the following:
- The Apache HTTP Server by the Apache Software Foundation.
- The FreeBSD operating system by The FreeBSD Project.
- Mailman, the GNU mailing list manager, by the Free Software Foundation.
- Movable Type, web (and weblog) publishing software, by Six Apart.
- The MySQL open source database by MySQL AB.
- The Perl programming language, originally written by Larry Wall and now written and supported by many.
- The Python programming language by the Python Software Foundation.
- SWISH-E indexing and searching software by the SWISH-E development team.
I decided not to acknowledge hardware manufacturers, the electric company, my ISP, electromagnetism, gravity, or my mom. OK, I'll acknowledge my mom. Hi mom! And my wife. Hi honey!
