Reese AFB, Lubbock, Texas. Hanscom AFB, Bedford, Massachusetts.

This article is one in an ongoing series about my life experiences, the people that I’ve met along the way, and how I’m using LinkedIn to reconnect with them, both directly via LinkedIn itself and indirectly (since people frequently search for references to themselves on the Internet) by publishing their names in these… [read full post]
Ironically, the Freakonomics blog about economics appears to be having economic difficulty.

Freakonomics Needs Money!
Help save Freakonomics. They need money and can no longer afford to purchase stock photography. At least this is what I conclude based on today’s post, which appears to have borrowed a copyrighted image from another site without attribution or purchase. (I called the vendor… [read full post]

How to protect against identity theft.

In the summer of 2006, an employee of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) took a laptop home. The laptop contained social security numbers and other personal details for up to 26.5 million veterans and some spouses. The laptop was stolen. The Boston Marathon, Red Sox baseball, spring weather. What’s not to love?

Today is Patriots Day, a holiday in Massachusetts and Maine, the two states where I’ve lived almost all of my life. (I’ve lived a total of about four combined years in Finland (Rautaruukki), Texas (Air Force), and Colorado (Verio).)
Patriots Day is also when the Boston Marathon takes… [read full post]

Ten percent of troops in Iraq may have tours of duty extended by four months.
Today, the Pentagon announced that 15,000 of the 145,000 troops currently stationed in Iraq may have their tours of duty extended by 120 days. In a losing war, this is bad news for all involved parties.
I generally avoid issues relating to controversial subjection such as sex, politics, and religion… [read full post]
